The 2022 "The Visit: Greensboro (TVG)" was held July 27-31 at various venues throughout central North Carolina. Over 80 teams contributed to a wide display of talent at TVG. This blog post will recognize the best uncommitted–at the time of this event–players from the 2023 and 2024 HS graduating classes.
This is my "Top 5" from the 2022 TVG:
Uncommitted 2023:
1. ('23,NC) LHP Tanner Kaler of 5 Star Carolina
6'1" 180lbs. Polished from the left side. Worked quick and under control. Offered up the FB at a consistent 88-89; has been up to 91 prior. Added a tough SL at 82 and turned the CH at 76. Huge uncommitted arm with a well-rounded arsenal; legitimate D1 prospect.
2. *Wofford Commit* ('23,OH) INF Carter Hanson of Triple Crown Royals
6’2” physical RHH. The Buckeye decommit showed some pop all week with the stick, and also flashed the leather. Turned heads at UNC Chapel Hill with a big pull side HR and continued great play wrapping the week up in High Point with both off./def. production. Hanson now figures to contribute to the established program at Wofford after his senior HS season.
3. ('23,SC) RHP Jacob Iverson of On Deck O's
6'4" 170lbs projects. Was comfortable going to the BB at 75-78 often. FB was mid 8s peaking at 87. Went no-hit against good bats across 4IP. Arm to follow into Fall-Spring.
4. ('23,NC) INF/RHP Ty Mathis of C35 Baseball
6' 180lbs. Spark-plug for C35 on championship day. Above average hit tool with juice on hand. SS feel defensively with mid 8s across the diamond. Sleeper INF from small school NC who should definitely start drawing interest.
5. ('23,NC) UTIL Hunter Huneycutt of C35 Baseball
Another C35 prospect who should be assuming more college interest. Under the radar swiss army knife; medium frame guy who plays the game the right way. Contact tool in bag from both sides of the plate. Great runner, great grades, and just fun to watch.
Uncommitted 2024:
1. ('24,NC) RHP Ty Goodson of Athletes Lab
Lots to like from the 6'3" 220lb frame. The projectable rising HS Junior is already showcasing some velo with the FB mostly in upper 8s and peaking at 89. The clean shorter AA and working segments from Goodson should yield 90+ sooner rather than later. BB clocked at 77 and turned a CH over at 80.
2. ('24,SC) RHP Mason Tompkins of Athletes Lab
Really got TVG out on the right foot with his 8am start on Day 1. High strike% utilizing the entire arsenal. FB was up to 89. SL 77, CB 71, and CH 76. No walks, no runs, and 5Ks across 3IP on his winning appearance.
3. *Northwestern Commit* ('24,NY) RHP Luke Burden of Time To Sign
Quality 6'3" 175lb pitcher build. Got up to 88 on the FB with ASR and sat 86; projects as an easy 90s arm in near future. Created a tough look mixing in a gyro SL at 80.
4. ('24,NC) C Seth Moon of SBA
Moon is shaping up to be a multi-tool college prospect. Posts ~2.0 PTs with an above average arm. Had a game on Day 1 at HPU with a “Moon-shot” HR while also adding another barreled base-hit. Upside is also there with both his age and his maturing 5’11” 190lb build.
5. ('24,SC) 3B TJ Lemonis of Bodyshop Baseball
Has the right idea offensively; high finish with an uphill path and some juice. The 5’10” 170lb frame can also project as a MIF. Showed a smooth glove from 3rd with overall defensive feel.
