Alejandro Ortega, Elev8 Academy (2029, RHP):


Ortega showcased above average movement on both his FB and CB, as well as above average velocity on his FB. Ortega’s FB averaged 79 mph, T82.4, while his CB averaged 64.5 mph, T66.6. Further, the FB averaged 17.9” of IVB and 7.6” of HB, while his CB averaged -16.8” of HB and -13.1” of IVB. The figure additionally demonstrates just how significant the movement on both pitches are. Ortega cruised in his outing to a 42% CSW% - good for 2nd in any outing this tournament among pitchers with 30 pitches thrown.

Jake Murray, CBU 2029 United Red (2029, RHP):


Murray put a three pitch mix on display in his outing, throwing a FB, CB, and SL. On his FB, Murray averaged 78.8 mph, T82.7 and had over 13.7” of IVB and 5” of HB. In addition to the above average velocity and solid movement, Murray averaged 2000+ RPMS and reached 2170+ RPMS when throwing his FB. Both breaking balls showcased tighter movement than average but displayed distinctly different characteristics. The CB averaged 64.8 mph, T69.5 and the SL averaged 71 mph, T71.5. Outside of just the difference in velocities, the CB averaged -6.6” of HB and -5.9” of IVB and the SL averaged -5.3” of HB and 1.9” of IVB. The figure further displays the distinct difference in breaking pitches. 

Cruz Guzman, SACSN 14U (2029, RHP):


Guzman showcased arguably the most electric stuff of the entire tournament, throwing a FB, CH, and CB in his playoff outing. Guzman threw the hardest FB out of anybody to record a pitch thrown, averaging 83.1 mph, T86.3. He further displayed above average movement on his FB, averaging 17.6” of IVB and 7.3” of HB. For the changeup, Guzman averaged 77 mph, T78 and averaged an outstanding 15.4” of HB, while also averaging 7.6” of IVB. Lastly, Guzman’s CB averaged 68.6 mph, T70.1 and had -12.8” of HB, as well as -16.7” of IVB. Not only did Guzman display above average velocity, he also displayed above average movement on all three pitches.

Cody Dugger, USA Prime Tampa 14U Scout- Bautista (2029, RHP):


Dugger displayed one of the more interesting movement profiles. Looking into his repertoire, Dugger’s FB averaged 77.1 mph, T78.5, as well as having 13.7” of IVB and 1.7” of HB. Further, Dugger’s SL averaged 66.7 mph, T68.1, in addition to having -12.4” of HB and -2.9” of IVB. Dugger was additionally able to make hitters uncomfortable from a 6’2” release height and 6’2” average extension. 


Jack Torresson, SACSN 14U (2029, RHH):


Torresson put on one of the most impressive displays of power of any hitter this tournament, registering 6 batted balls over 85 mph (1st, 2 more than the next closest). Notable batted balls include:

·     2B (91.13 EV, 17.75° LA, 291.81’)

·     3B (90.93 EV, 33.06° LA, 346.29’)

·     2B (87 EV, 25.5° LA, 297.9’)

These 3 batted balls alone are impressive, not to mention the fact that Torresson hit 3 more balls over 85 mph that were caught as outs. In addition to this impressive display of power, Torresson swung 26 times and only missed 3 times. In terms of his approach, Torresson looked to do damage on fastballs out in front, hitting them to the pull side. 

Torresson had a beyond impressive weekend, playing a crucial role in leading the SACSN 14U offense to a championship win.


Scott Sorensen, XLB Wave 13U (2029, RHH):


Sorensen hit 4 batted balls over 85 mph this past weekend, tied for second in the tournament. Notable batted balls include:

·     2B (97.1 EV, 23.5° LA, 334’)

·     Flyout (90.4 EV, 28° LA, 301.3’)

Sorenson experienced some unfortunate luck at the plate, registering only one hit on the four batted balls he hit over 85 mph. Sorensen registered a 90% Z-Swing% on FBs, showcasing an aggressive at the plate. As demonstrated in the attached figure, Sorenson looked to utilize a gap to gap approach, driving the ball up the middle consistently.

Mathew Kim, Scorpions 2029 Scout White (2029, LHP):


Kim utilized an interesting two pitch mix, throwing a low spin rate 2SFB (1720 average RPM) with above average HB (-17.5” average HB), as well as a SW with plus movement (14.4” of average HB). Kim’s 2SFB averaged 73.8 mph and T76.2, while his SW averaged 62.8 mph and T63.7. Further, his 2SFB had just under 8.5” of average IVB, while his SW had around -2.7” of average IVB. Kim’s unique skillset – further emphasized by a sub five feet release height - fueled a scoreless 3 2/3 IP outing en route to a win for Scorpions 2029 Scout White.

James Williams, PBC Pal 14U (2029, RHP):


Williams showcased the ability to spin the baseball at an above average rate for his class, averaging 2370 RPM on his SW and 2100 RPM on his FB. In addition, Williams featured plus movement on his SW, averaging -18.2” of HB and .8” of IVB. For his FB, Williams averaged 78.9 mph and T83.9, displaying a plus pairing of velocity and spin rate for the pitch. Williams solid two pitch mix fueled a 6 IP CG with 7K in a win for PBC Pal 14U.


Abraham Ozuna, Elev8 Academy (2029, RHP):


Ozuna showcased both above average velocity and spin rate in his outings, providing length for Elev8 Academy out of the bullpen. Ozuna’s FB averaged 80.3 mph and T82.9 while having over 2160 RPM of spin. Ozuna paired his FB with a SW that averaged 2230 RPM, while averaging 71.1 mph and T71.9. Further, Ozuna’s SW averaged -14.7” of HB and 2.3” of IVB.


Michael Abrahan, XLB Wave 13U (2029, LHH):


Abrahan put on an impressive display of power and speed over the course of the tournament, hitting 2 balls over 85 and stealing 3 bases. Notable batted balls include:

·     2B (90.6 EV, 41.9° LA, 313’)

·     2B (88.3, 15.8° LA, 229.4’)

Abrahan utilized a gap-to-gap approach as seen in the attached figure. Showcasing a unique skillset, Abrahan served as the table setter en route to a playoff appearance for the XLB Wave 13U.
