Mostly only using his FB, he was able to locate in, out, and up to get hitters to whiff. A very intriguing young arm to follow through the Palm Beach Open and after.

Angel Nieves (‘29, FL) • SS • 6’0” • 130lb
Nieves showed his ability to do damage to all parts of the field in the X Team 2029’s win. Nieves put together a 2-3 day, jumping on the first pitch and singling to right field in his first at-bat. He then put together a good second at-bat and used an effective 2-strike approach to send a single out to LCF. A solid player to follow for the remainder of the tournament.

Lanky RHH, with tons of room to grow. Works with an open stance and high leg lift and long stride. Creates a lot of rotational force as he swings. Sneaky power. With a phenomenal day at the plate finding consistent barrels two of them over 85mph EV one of them being a 2RBI double that left the bat at 86mph and a sac fly that was 88mph EV. Not only was he a threat at the plate but also at the bases, stealing two bags and scoring three runs. Will definitely be an impactful player in the future.

Robert Deignan (‘29, FL) • RHP
Final Line: 5IP, 1H, 0R, 4BB, 9K
Deignan impressed many with his strong tall build with lots of power behind his delivery. He was able to run his FB up to 84mph, while utilizing his SL and CB throughout his outing to keep hitters guessing. His 9K came mostly swinging at high heaters, as he used his ride to his advantage. Other came on off speed pitches that hitters just were not able to pick up, and watched them go by. The ‘29 grad is arguably one of the top pitchers to follow in this tournament on days to come.
